Our beloved dog Ali passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2010.  He was dear to us all, and he will be missed.

The Passing of Ali

The owls sang, and cried.
I pondered if my old friend had died.
I prayed in thanks, and sadness.

Somewhere, someone, probably my parents, protecting me, I think, said praying, and grieving over pets was not to be.  Our eternal sense of loss, our pain, our failings, our past joys, our unfolding pangs about life should only happen for friends, family, or other supposedly more substantial tragedy.

It worked poorly then, it works not at all now.

My friend’s passing reminds me of times past, times changed, times changing, and of the eternal, unrelenting marching of my own life clock.
I have always longed for an endless summer, yet knowing there is always fall, and winter.

Goodbye old friend, goodbye my elegant white haired champion, goodbye faithful loving face of nature.

I will miss your searching eyes, your toothy grin, your want of attention, and your reliable undeserved affection.

Goodbye ALI.

  1. We enjoyed meeting him when we photographed Nancy and Brandon’s wedding this summer. he lived a very long life for a big dog, but no matter how long you have them, their passing leaves a hole in your heart. I lost my beloved Marley at only 13 months, and even though it was 6 months ago now, and I have a wonderful new Golden, there isn’t a day goes by that I don’ miss him

I will miss him also. Sonney (our dog) never missed an opportunity to run over and say hello to Ali and play. One memory of Ali,( before the invisible fence) was when we had painters painting the deck and Ali came over to visit. When one of the guys went to get his lunch it was missing. Ali definitely enjoyed his sandwich.
