This video aired on KATU in over Thanksgiving Weekend of 2007. The next day, we were slammed. We’ll never forget that moment at 4:30 pm on that Saturday. We were out of clean wine glasses and the dish washer was taking too long, so we started washing them by hand. We were supposed to be closing at 5pm, which would mean the tasting room staff would finally get a break. Then we look out the window to see a bus carrying 40 eager wine tasters. All we could do was laugh. Everyone had a great time.
Northwest wine author and columnist Chuck Hill just posted a great review of our 2006 Pinot Noir on his website, part 2 of a series focusing on Pinot Noir and Coppoer River Salmon. You can read it below, but be sure to check out some of his other reviews at http://www.winesnw.com/chuckhill_winesofweek.htm. He obviously knows his wine!
Cubanisimo Vineyards
2006 Pinot Noir
$29.00
“Neurosurgeon Mauricio Collada puts on his winemaker cap each fall to harvest and vinify Pinot Noir at his winery in Oregon’s Eola Hills. His 2006 Pinot Noir is succulent and seductive (in a Cuban way) as an accompaniment to salmon. The nose is rich with black cherry and spice with hints of cedar and cassis. The palate offers smoky notes over rich cherry fruit with flavors of plum and herb in the finish. Delicious with grilled salmon.”

The 3 Guys from Miami are best known for their fabulous cookbooks that put a creative & epicurean twist on traditional Latin & Cuban foods and beverages. We like the books so much that we have them for sale in our tasting room, and their books are one of our most popular gift shop items.
They recently posted about pairing Cubanisimo Vineyards wine with Cuban food. It really is a great read with some excellent recommendations. Go to the website www.iCuban.com to check it out.
Note: After April, the article will be archived & available here.

The next time you find yourself in Puerto Rico, be sure to stop by Cubanisimo International Cuisine in Bayamon, PR just 10 miles South of San Juan. The owner recently contacted us about buying our wines, and now we’re navigating the international regulations to get them our wines. Hopefully soon, they’ll have our wine in stock!

Just to let you know we enjoy, here in the Northeast (Fort Lee, NJ) the Cubanisimo wine we ordered, for the Nochebuena and we sent presents to friends and family (even the relatives from Miami, and to our surprise they did not know about it).We only encountered a PROBLEM, we cannot throw away the empty bottles, too beautiful to discard. Happy New Year to everybody at Cubanisimo, specially Christina .
We are always excited, and welcome new members to the Cubanisimo family of clients sharing our wonderful wines with the public. We have listed in this section some of the clients, and now will be adding: Woodstock Wine and Deli They are located on 4030 SE Woodstock Blvd. in Portland, Or. Their phone is 503-777-2208
Well the Labor Day Celebration was a total success, and we again connected with old friends, and made lots of wonderful new friends. Cubaneo, and Cana Son, the two salsa bands were outstanding, and crowd favorites. The “Ropa Vieja”, the croquetas, the mariquitas, the fruit salad were big hits as we continue to blend our wines with some Cuban tapas during our weekend celebrations. The Latin Jazz Group of Greg Wolf was very good, and provided for a lovely Sunday afternoon. We are already making plans for next year’s events on Memorial Day weekend, and then again on Labor Day weekend.
We are going to stay doing the Salsa lessons at our tasting room with Debra Secke year round, and will keep in contact with all through our client list.
We are planning the first Annual Halloween Celebration at Cubanisimo Vineyards for the Amigos of Cubanisimo Vineyards(Club Members Only), and will hold this at our estate. Later in the year(December), we will hold our first Christmas Wine/Dinner which will have limited seating, and we will announce it after all the arrangements are made in the next month.
We are getting ready for harvest, and the excitement at this time is combined with anxiety as we pray for good weather in the last two to three weeks. The winegrapes looks very good, the crop load is modest this year. More on this will come to you through our newsletter.
Finally we bottled the Rosado de Pinot noir, and it has all the elegant qualities typical of our Rosados, though it is representative of the vintage (2006) in the challenge we had with elevated brix, and as such one notes a hint of residual sugar. We are very pleased, and look forward to sharing this very popular wine with all.
We also bottled the 2006 Pinot noir, and this year we have a wonderful elegant Pinot noir from our Victoria Vineyards bloc, and a beautiful, silky classy Pinot noir from our Vendemia Vineyard bloc we are going to be selling as our reserve. The latter with only 50 cases available. The 2006 Pinot noir will not be released till January 2008, but we will doing a pre-release tasting during our Thanksgiving Weekend tasting.
